Based on the fairy tale Cinderella by Charles Perrault, it is the twelfth Disney animated feature film. Cinderella is a dreamer who is trapped within a step-family who doesn't love or appreciate her. Enslaved by her evil stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella dreams of going to the ball and meeting the Prince. With the help of a few mice friends and her fairy Godmother, Cinderella's dream comes true.
Sleeping Beauty is the 1959 full length animated feature production from Walt Disney Studios. It is the third film to feature and official Disney princess. When Maleficent curses Princess Aurora at birth, the three good fairies hide her, but the faintest hopes is that "with true love's kiss, the spell shall break." After many childless years, King Stefan and Queen Leah happily welcome the birth of their daughter, the Princess Aurora.
The Little Mermaid is a full length animated feature film released in 1989. It is based on the original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is the fourth film to feature an Official Disney Princess. Ariel, a mermaid, wants desperately to be human so she can meet Prince Eric. After a sea witch helps her, she is human- but without a voice! And if Eric doesn't kiss her in three days, she will belong to evil Ursula- forever.
Beauty and the Beast is the thirtieth full-length animated feature film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. The film is based on the fairy tale La Belle et la Bête. The film tells the story of a prince who is transformed into a Beast and a young woman named Belle whom he imprisons in his castle. To become a prince again, the Beast must love Belle and win her love in return, or he will remain a Beast forever. After becoming prisoner to the Beast, Belle stays in the castle with his talking household objects. After she starts to fall for the beast, Belle must protect him and her from a jealous Gaston.
Aladdin is a 1992 full length animated feature film. It is the sixth film to feature an official Disney Princess. Common thief Aladdin is cunned by Jafar into stealing a lamp from the Cave of Wonders that was home to an all powerful Genie, only to realize the Genie can help him win the heart of his true love Princess Jasmine. The story takes place in the mystical city of Agrabah, which is based mainly on the medieval city of Baghdad, the home of the 1001 Arabian Nights, and there are some inconsistencies in the time period.
Pocahontas is a 1995 American animated musical romance-drama film and the thirty-third full-length animated feature film in the Disney animated features canon. The film is the first animated feature Disney film to be based on a real historic character, the known history, and the folklore and legend that surrounds the Native American woman Pocahontas, and and features a fictionalized account of her encounter with Englishman John Smith and the settlers that arrived from the Virginia Company.
Mulan is the first disney princess film to be based off a legend. Tomboy Mulan secretely takes her father's place in the army of China to defeat the huns, lead by Shan Yu. When the Huns, led by the ruthless Shan Yu, invade China, each family is given a conscription notice. Mulan's father, Fa Zhou has to serve in the army, but due to his age and previous war injuries, it is doubtful that he would survive. Fa Mulan disguises herself as a man, then takes her father's conscription notice, armor, and weapons so that he will not have to go. She rides away on her horse, Khan, to join the army, knowing that if she were caught she would be killed.
The Princess and the Frog is a 2009 American animated film based on E. D. Baker's novel The Frog Princess, which was in turn inspired by the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale "The Frog Prince". Tiana, the main character, is also notable as Disney's first African-American princess. The film marked a return to the classic Disney style in terms of animation and storytelling. With the success of The Princess and the Frog, following Disney features were presented as musicals and had an element of fantasy, as well as romance; both of which hadn't been present in the animated canon for nearly a decade.
Tangled is a 2010 full length animated feature film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. An elderly woman named Gothel witnesses a single drop of sunlight hit the ground, creating a magical flower with the ability to keep herself young when she sings to it. Centuries later, the queen of a large kingdom falls ill while expecting a child. Her guards located the mysterious flower, hidden by Gothel, and bring it to the queen. The flower heals the queen and she gives birth to a girl named Rapunzel, who comes to inherit the flower's magic through her long golden hair.
Brave is a 2012 American computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was produced by Katherine Sarafian, with John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Pete Docter as executive producers. Set in the Scottish Highlands, the film tells the story of a princess named Merida who defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in the kingdom by expressing the desire not to be betrothed.
Moana is a a 2016 American 3D computer-animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film tells the story of Moana, the strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian village, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with the goddess Te Fiti. When a blight strikes her island, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in the hope of returning the relic to Te Fiti and saving her people.
